BAND UPDATE: Les Carlsen, Michael Bloodgood, and Paul Jackson met recently to discuss the future of Bloodgood. After a disappointing false start in 2002, it seems there is hope for an active Bloodgood once again. Michael reported that they intend to re-record classic Bloodgood songs to give them an updated sound, and then work on recording new material. Michael implied that his recovery from his near death experience has been a strong motivating factor in his renewed interest in the band. When asked who would play drums, Michael suggested that the most likely candidate is former Bloodgood drummer Mark Welling. |

MICHAEL MEDICAL UPDATE: Michael's latest MRA shows that the dissection has completely healed. Praise God! Please continue to pray that all three damaged nerves will be completely restored. |
2.5.05 |
MICHAEL MEDICAL UPDATE: Michael went in for a Cerebrovascular Evaluation (CVE) on February 1st. This test uses ultrasound to examine the blood flow to the brain whose main purpose is to check for any clotting that may have occurred as a result of the dissection. Although he remains at risk for a stroke or an aneurysm, the test results were negative and showed no signs of clotting/plague. Michael's neurologist has scheduled another Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) for later this month to see how the dissection is healing. Thank you and God bless you for your continued prayers. |
1.19.05 |
MICHAEL'S MEDICAL SCARE: Michael has suffered a "spontaneous carotid arterial dissection." The left carotid vein collapsed and caused a swelling of the vein impacting three cranial nerves leaving one of his vocal cords, the left side of his tongue, and part of his ability to swallow in a state of paralysis. This a very rare event (odds are only 2.5/100,000), so it took a extensive series of tests (CAT scan, multiple MRI, MRA tests, x-rays, bloods tests, et al) before the doctors were able to discover what exactly had happened. Thankfully, Michael did not suffer a stroke as initially diagnosed, but continues to experience ipsilateral headaches and neck aches along with the other symptoms of the dissection. The doctors are optimistic that he will make a full recovery over the weeks and months ahead, but will be continue to monitor his blood pressure and look for any sign of clotting as a result of the dissection. Please keep Michael in your prayers for his full and speedy recovery. He sends his love and gratitude for all the prayers and help you have been extending to him and his family during this difficult time.
Michael summarized by saying this: "Don't know if you heard about what I've been going through, but I'm a mess! ;-( Would sure appreciate your prayers." |
9.18.04 |
AZ OF 80'S ROCK: A two-page spread on Bloodgood (pp. 93-95) was recently published in the book A-Z of 80's Rock, by Garry Shapre-Young and Dave Reynolds. It's published by Cherry Red Books and is 735 pages in length. Overall, it's a very positive review (including a Detonation-era picture and complete discography). The only overt error was that it lists David Zaffiro's former bands as Morning Star and Cypress, which were actually bands that Michael used to be in. David's old band was called Crystal City Rockers. |

DAVID ZAFFIRO UPDATE: We spoke with David Zaffiro via telephone yesterday, and he addressed your message board inquiry about his health. Rumors of his health being poor are NOT TRUE. At the present time, he does not plan to participate in the Bloodgood reunion, but wished us all the best! We all pray the same for you and your family David! |

FIRST REHEARSAL: Michael, Paul and Jeffrey had their first official reunited Bloodgood rehearsal at a local church! The event was captured on film by local graphic artist, Cale Burr. Check out the media photos section of the site for a peek.
In keeping with their hard rock tradition, the band cooked the p.a. system in the first 10 minutes. (Thankfully, it was only a blown fuse.) The guys had ear-to-ear grins as they covered tunes from Crucify to All Stand Together.
Les (who lives in California) will begin rehearsing with the band in the months to come. |
